EZ Gel and Hyaluronic Acid Filler: How They Compare
An autologous alternative to synthetic filler
Hyaluronic acid fillers are well established. They restore volume predictably, work quickly, and have a long track record. But some patients would rather not have a synthetic material injected into their face, and for those patients an autologous option is worth understanding.
At Slender Me Medical we offer EZ Gel, a biofiller made from your own blood, at $1,999 per session.
What is EZ Gel?
EZ Gel is derived from your own blood. A small draw is taken at your appointment and processed in a centrifuge to separate and concentrate plasma proteins, growth factors, and albumin. That concentrate is then heated to produce a gel consistency and injected into the treatment area.
Because the material comes from your own body rather than an external source, the risk of a reaction to a foreign substance is substantially reduced compared with synthetic fillers. It is not zero risk — any injection carries risks including bruising, swelling, infection, nodule formation, and vascular complications, and those apply here as they do to any injectable.
How it compares with hyaluronic acid filler
Material: Traditional fillers use synthetic hyaluronic acid or similar substances. EZ Gel uses your own blood-derived proteins.
Reaction to foreign material: Hyaluronic acid fillers carry a small risk of reaction to the product itself. Autologous material substantially reduces that particular risk, though procedural risks remain.
Duration: Hyaluronic acid fillers typically last six to eighteen months. EZ Gel's volume effect is shorter, generally around three months, with the intent that collagen stimulation contributes over a longer period.
Reversibility: Hyaluronic acid fillers can be dissolved with hyaluronidase if a correction is needed. Autologous biofiller cannot be reversed in the same way. This is a genuine consideration and worth discussing at consultation.
Regulatory status: Hyaluronic acid dermal fillers are FDA-approved devices for specific indications. Autologous preparations such as EZ Gel are not FDA-approved products; they are prepared from your own tissue at the point of care.
Who may be a candidate
EZ Gel may suit you if you prefer autologous material over synthetic filler, if you have had a reaction to a filler previously, or if you are interested in the collagen-stimulating component. It is not appropriate for everyone, including patients on blood thinners and those with certain medical or blood conditions. A consultation with our licensed provider is required.
What to expect
The appointment begins with a blood draw comparable to routine lab work. The sample is processed while you wait. Your provider then injects the prepared gel into the treatment areas. Redness, swelling, and mild bruising at injection sites are common and generally resolve within a few days.
